“I got busted in the U.S. coming back from Mexico. I had three dollars worth of hash in my pocket, I’d bough five dollars worth and smoked two of it and put three dollars worth in my pocket and forgot about it. I came back with it – the threw me in the pokey. I spent three and a half months behind bars all total. It certainly was an experience. Incidentally, I don’t recommend it, but it wasn’t so bad. To me, it was like a heavy High School. As a matter of fact it was like I hadn’t paid all my High School dues and had to go back and pick up a few odds and ends.” ~ Peter on his 1972 arrest – The Monkees Photo Album

“I wanted to leave the group way back when the first season ended, but they convinced me not to. I didn’t care about all the things that were happening, all the acclaim. I hated the work. It was tough work and I didn’t like it. I wanted to record all my life. Actually, after the TV show was cancelled, it was easier for me. Doing the TV show was the worst. Then came the movie, and I couldn’t forego the movie, so I did the movie. You know, there were moments here and there – lots of good, funny stuff happening throughout – but the only time I was really happy was when we were recording ‘Headquarters’.” ~ Peter on leaving the Monkees – The Monkees Photo Album

“I love Mike’s sense of humour. You can usually tell when I’m going to say something funny, but you never can with Mike. He thinks up these really silly things, but he never looks like he’s going to say something silly. Sometimes when we have scenes together, I can hardly keep a straight face through them, because he make me laugh so hard.” ~ Micky on Mike – The Monkees Photo Album

“Micky is a maniac. When Micky went nuts and was allowed to just go beserk and do what he wanted to in his craziest of modes, he was a joy to watch. He literally climbed the walls on one specific occasion – just put his feet and hands and climbed right up the walls. I couldn’t believe it.” ~ Peter on Micky – The Monkees Photo Album

“I got the job in The Monkees because I’m a con man from way back. You’ve got to know how to ‘shuck’ – it’s lesson number one. Presenting yourself in the most favourable light.” ~ Mike on becoming a Monkee – The Monkees Photo Album

“Now we’ll be able to do things the way we want to. We each have our own style – Peter is understatement, quieter, melodic; Micky is ragtime, old-fashioned; Davy is Broadway, mohair tuxedo; and I’m hard-driving West Coast rock – and our albums will have a bit of each.” ~ Mike’s musical expectations while filming ‘Head’ – National Enterprise Association

“We started going together and we were really, really hitting it off. We were a team socking it to everybody; and doing good works. She was 16 and I was 22. I can remember I was walking around with this constant grin on my face. I just couldn’t stop smiling!” ~ Peter on meeting first wife, Jody Babb – Tiger Beat Magazine, July 1968

A: 103 Q: If you could change anything about the world, what would it be? A: The position of the sun!” ~ Mike answering a survey – The Monkees Photo Album

“We all play ourselves except Peter who plays a ‘thick’ and he isn’t. We’re out to make people happy and enjoy it – is that wrong?” ~ Davy on the Monkees – The Monkees Photo Album

“Having the four of us together on stage again was one of the great highlights of my life. We were all a bit tearful in the end.” ~ Davy on the Greek Theatre show – The Monkees Photo Album

“Q: What is your ultimate ambition? A: To be 5 foot eleven! Q: What is your biggest problem? A: My hands are too small for ordinary bowling ball grips!” ~ Davy answering a survey – The Monkees Photo Album
